MEDICAL COLLEGE NOT JUST FOR MDs

While we appreciated your recent coverage of the Albany Medical College's 171st commencement ceremonies (May 22), a reader might have been left with the impression that we only award M.D. degrees.

Although MDs constitute the largest number of degrees awarded (138), we're equally proud of the fact that the class of 2009 also included 30 who received master of science degrees in physician assistant studies, 15 who received master of science degrees in nurse anesthesiology, 15 who received master of science degrees in bioethics and 13 who received either master of science or doctoral degrees in the biomedical sciences.

Albany Medical College is proud of all of its graduates especially since so many of them -- physicians, physician assistants, nurse anesthetists, scientists and academicians -- choose to remain and pursue their careers here in the Capital Region.

We're proud to be a continuing source of health care and academic resources for our region.

Vincent P. Verdile, M.D.

Dean, Albany Medical College
Executive Vice President of Health Affairs, Albany Medical Center

However, NONE of these photographed folks are MDs, and the majority are from the PA Class of 2009!
